The resources on this site  have been developed as part of a TAFE NSW Project to supporting the implementation of wireless/mobile technologies in teaching and learning.

The resources are meant to be utilised by Institutes to provide professional development  for teachers and students in how to access wireless technology and how wireless can be utilised to engage students in a collaborative, constructivist approach to learning. The use of wireless technology is about bringing the Internet into the calssroom or workplace to engage students in collaborative learning. The Internet also provides an enormous amount of information and resources that can support teaching and learning.

There will also be case study scenarios captured on how teachers and students are using the technology to give practical examples of the use of the technology. These can be used to guide teachers new to the use of wireless technology and to capture new pedaogical approaches to teaching and learning that this technology makes accessible. Good luck with your journey.

Wireless Infrastructure Research developed by South Western Sydney Institute

Implementing a wireless solution not only opens the door to a true flexible workforce, its potential enables all users to be part of a network that grows with the needs of the organization.

Wireless technologies provide the potential for freedom of mobility which not only provides a competitive edge within the educational market but this technology also ensures a seamless process to the new digital educational revolution that is being encouraged.

A well-designed Wireless LAN ensures that the network is well protected and easy to manage, without sacrificing the wireless user’s ability to roam seamlessly. This research project contains recommended best practices for the design and implementation of wireless LANs within a TAFE environment.

This research also contains the recommended protocols to access a wireless LAN within TAFE NSW Institutes with TAFE based and personal devices. Please note:The research paper will be released on 28 July.

The current situation with wireless at each of the TAFE NSW Institutes and information on how to connect has been collated in this project and is available by clicking on:

Information on wireless implementation across TAFE NSW

This resource provides information on each Institute configuration and security protocols for wireless access. The Best Practice model developed in this project, if adopted, will provide a more uniform approach that meets the standards and requirements adopted across DET.

Good Practice Case Studies developed by Illawarra Institute

Seven case studies demonstrating good practice will be documented. These will show how teachers and students are using wireless/mobile technologies in the classroom and other on-campus spaces as well as how staff are using wireless to improve work practice and professional learning.

Professional Development Strategies & Resources developed by Illawarra Institute

The project identified a range of professional development strategies to support a roll-out of wireless technologies. The focus is on Good Practice in teaching and learning and working supported by wireless network access and devices. Wireless provides more flexible ways of using technology in the classroom and in work.

In particular, Wireless Learning provides an opportunity to transform our teaching, to reshape our existing learning resources and strategies, to engage learners in active, connected and learner-centred pedagogy and to integrate multiple learning spaces through mobile and wireless networks.

A range of existing professional learning resources were collated together and supplemented in the Wireless 4 TAFE project.  See also the Resources & References below.
