My Continuing Relationship with Sydney Institute
As a new full time or temporary teacher, it is likely that you will have had considerable experience working as a part time casual teacher either in this Institute or elsewhere in TAFE NSW. When you move from casual to permanent employment you enter into a new relationship with the Institute, your section and your colleagues, one that will require a different kind of committment to the Insitute's goals. In addition to all the responsibilites of a classroom teacher (as outlined above in the section devoted to Part Time Casual Teachers), you will be expected to develop much greater familiarity with Sydney Institute's processes, and demonstrate greater levels of responsibility and accountability,
- You will obviously need to become fully familiar with and competent in using the Institute's systems and processes such as CLAMS, TPD, and the use of the DET Portal.
- You will need not just to be aware of, but constantly putting into practice key DET policies which affect TAFE.
- You will need to understand and play a role in implementing the Institute's plans, strategies and new directions. For more information abour our Strategic Plan, see the links below.
- You will have much greater involvement in the work of your section, and be asked to contribute actively to building the whole business of the section
- As a new teacher you will bring new skills and fresh ideas to the organisation: from time to time you will have the chance to use these skills and ideas in various leadership roles - both formal and informal
- You will need to develop even greater flexibility in the way you use learning strategies and technologies to meet the needs of your students and to help the Institute meet its key targets
- You will be expected to demonstrate an ongoing committment both to maintaining your professional currency in your teaching area, and to developing the skills and capabilities to support Sydney Institute in its strategic directions.
