Our Environment
Sydney Institute is a VET (Vocational Education and Training) provider operating in a highly competitive and rapidly changing enviroment. We are also an important part of the Department of Education and Training in New South Wales, and so are responsible to the State Minister for Education and the Director General.
As a Registered Training Organisation we deliver nearly 400 Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications from 59 different Training Packages.
We are the largest of the ten TAFE Insitutes in NSW, and we compete with over 500 private RTO's, as well as Adult and Community Education Colleges, other Government training providers, Government and non-Government high schools, 2 Universities and over 700 interstate RTO's operating in NSW.
Many external factors impact on our delivery: these include:
- The changing global economy and labour market environment, for example skills shortages, the ageing workforce, increase in casual, part time and contract work, the impact of the internet and information technology in the workplace
- Changing industry requirements, for example, focus on upskilling existing workers, demands for increased flexibility and customised training solutions
- Government agenda through the Council of Australian Governments (the old "Premiers' Conference), for example, new national qualifications, changes to apprenticeships, skills recognition, skills shortage programm
- NSW Government initiatives, for example, inititatives to strengthen VET in schools, to improve participation, address skills shortages and develop partnerships with industry.
Sydney Institute operates within the Australian Quality Training Framework, which sets out the minimum standards for Registered Training Organisations. (Follow the link above for an overview of what AQTF means, and links to more detailed information) We are currently certified to ISO 9001 (last ISO Audit conducted in 2007).
