Our Organisation
Sydney Institute is the largest Registered Training Organisation in the Australian VET (Vocational Education and Training) sector, and one of the largest in the world. As part of TAFE NSW it has a key role providing a wide range of vocational and second chance education for industry and community in Sydney and New South Wales.
The Institute consists of seven colleges - the Design Centre at Enmore, Eora, Petersham, Randwick, St George, Sutherland, (Loftus and Gymea) and Ultimo.
College Directors
Supporting the Institute Director, College Directors are responsible for the delivery of relevant, flexible, cost-effective TAFE vocational education and training programs and services.

Assistant Directors of Educational Programs (ADEP)
ADEPs are responsible to their respective College Directors, and are effectively managers of clusters of teaching sections, providing leadership and advice to Head Teachers on planning, resource management and educational issues. Each Assistant Director is supported by a Chief Education Officer whose role is to provide support and advice to Head Teachers and Assistant Directors.
In addition, there are four Assistant Directors (Business) coordinating Business Teams whose functions include:
- Shaping the Institute's profile
- Developing business strategies
- Maintaining and developing products and services
- Identifying and establishing new industry partners and arrangements with other training providers.

Head Teacher
Head Teachers directly manage 'the teaching sections which deliver Sydney Institute's business. They have the chief responsibility for ensuring that the highest quality education and training is available to our students and clients. Head Teachers undertake a teaching role themselves as well as providing educational and administrative support to their staff, advising on career development, maintaining staff relations and ensuring appropriate standards of education.Interview with Lynne Codner, Head Teacher of Hospitality at Ultimo
Manager Administrative Services (MAS)
The MAS in your "Cluster" provides quality management of operational services and facilities within clusters at Ultimo College to ensure best use is made of area and teaching section resources. Operations Manager (OM)
The Operations Managers at Petersham, Enmore, Randwick and Eora Colleges provide quality administrative management, organisation and leadership in all operational matters to senior management, staff and students. The OSM maintains facilities to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of college administration and student support. St George and Sutherland Colleges have College Service Managers (CSM) who have similar roles to Operations Managers.
Customer Service Officer
Your Customer Service Officers provide a range of "front desk" advice and information to students and staff, including information about timetables and courses, Recognition of Prior Learning, handling student enquiries, providing support and advice during enrolment periods.
