Using Technology to do Business

The TAFE Workforce Development Guarantee, a capability development initiative of the TAFE 21st Century document clearly identifies “using technology to do business” as one of five key capability areas to be developed for TAFE in the 21st Century.

This project also aligns with the Sydney Institute Business Plan 2008 identifying “embedding new technologies and personalised approaches in teaching and learning activities” as a College priority under the Products and Services key area.

Learning Technology Mentors

Program Scope:

This is an Institute wide project impacting on the capability of an estimated number of 480 staff members and enhancing learning opportunities for an estimated number of 9600 students. LTMs were  skilled in the use of new technologies. The deliverables for them was to mentor and provide professional development to at least 40 teachers at their College over a 10 week period, thus impacting on the capability of 480 staff members (12x40=480). Mentors were released to attend one week intensive professional development and 5 hours a week for 10 weeks.Teachers/teaching sections targeted by LMTs were selected by College Management Teams to ensure alignment with College Business Plans.

The Learning Technology Mentors (LTMs) program focused on building Institute wide staff capability to use and embed new technologies in teaching and learning. Ostensibly, this project focused on being more flexibile and responsive to the needs of customers and students and enhance student engagement and personalised learning opportunities.

In order to achieve desired outcomes, this project developed a key group of  12 Sydney Institute practitioners as LTMs. Each LTM (one at each campus) formed a network of mentors across Sydney Institute skilled in the use of those new technologies.

Product of LTM Project:

Part of the LTM's mentoring program other than providing a mentoring model was to produce two case studies that depict the mentoring achievement and outcomes for embedding technolgy into their designated teaching cluster. Below is a table of 24 case studies provided by 12 mentors that illustrate the capabilty development of designing and implementing technologies to do business  in teaching and learning.
