Topics

TAFE students are increasing their knowledge and skills in ICT Sustainability through practical projects in IT courses. These skills are now in demand by business and government to improve energy efficiency and environmental consequences of expanding ICT infrastructure.

This session is a conversation with Stanley Tonkins & Students from the Information Technology section, Petersham College on the TAFE Student project on ICT Sustainability.

Typical project work has seen the development of:

  • A low powered (20w) desktop
  • A solar and wind powered energy solution
  • DC power provided over the ethernet
  • An understanding of the application of server virtualisation, thin client computing and WebOS

Join us in a discussion with the students as we explore some practical solutions in ICT Sustainability.

Topics include:

  • Project Overview
  • ICT Sustainability
  • Project outcomes
  • Can IT be sustainable?
