Effective Internet Searching
Focus of Project
The project focussed on developing the skills of Petersham and Design Centre library staff in using Adobe software to produce online learning objects, enabling facilitation of a flexible learning environment for library users, and supporting teachers in adopting emerging technologies for e-learning. The learning object produced is designed to enhance student information literacy skills by providing an interactive online tutorial on effective internet searching techniques.
Educational Technology Used
Powerpoint & Adobe presenter combined with embedded Adobe Captivate movies. Final Movie published and delivered by Adobe Connect.
Impact of the project
The development of an online learning resource for library users provides both an addition and alternative to library in-house internet searching workshops. It is particularly useful for flexible delivery and part-time students who may not be able to access face to face delivery, as well as a revision tool for students who have previously attended internet searching training sessions. The Effective Internet Searching learning object will be accessible on the Sydney Institute College Libraries website and will be housed in the TaLE Learning Reference Repository (LRR).
The project has enabled library staff to gain valuable skills in using Adobe Presenter and Captivate, allowing future applications in the library environment and the potential to build on what has been developed so far.
