A wiki is a web based service which enables online collaboration. Each user can edit and save changes to web page content using a web browser. They have emerged as a powerful tool for facilitating mass collaborative authoring wikipedia being the most famous example.

Sydney Institute Wikis

TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute currently uses 2 wiki platforms.

1. Mediawiki

The open source Mediawiki platform is currently used for organisational collaboration. These wikis is hosted internally on a server based @ Ultimo and availaible on the internet.

A wiki, managed by the Workforce Development Unit used to support the capability development across the institute.

2. Wikispaces

Based upon the popular commercial wikispaces wiki platform. Sydney Institute has purchased a private label domain @ www.sydneyinstitute.wikispaces.net which enables staff to create add free, SI branded wikis. All the wikispaces wikis are visible on the WWW, although some are private spaces which require membership to be granted by the organisers.
